DARK DECEMBER

I'll be en route to Thailand in two weeks from now.

SAVE FOR A SIDE NOTE

It's been a long and complicated couple of months for me. I've moved home, been swung into depression, and hopped across the ocean to Los Angeles. I'm doing an unwelcomed amount of self loathing, and it's incredibly challenging to overcome. Each day I attempt to be my best self but more often than not I fail. It's a wish-wash of ups and downs and an overwhelming amount of confusion. Today, though, will be a good day.

DRUG STORE

I'm picking up American English quicker than I'd expected. I even told my sister to go to the 'drug store', instead of saying 'pharmacy'. I also said 'grade papers' rather than 'mark essays'.

Today's post, a colour edit of Trendzzzz, is my current real painting project. Yesterday evening I started translating it into an acrylic "masterpiece".

SPACE AND ALL THE SHIT IN IT

Here comes the sun...

I've been keeping a close eye on US news at the moment because I am travelling to L.A. in October, and need to exchange some money before I depart. All this nuclear bomb talk is not helping ease my travel stress. This morning, while progessing down at internet rabbit hole, I started researching the effects of nuclear bomb tests on our poor seas. I really don't understand why human beings can be so nasty to one another. Dear world leaders, please don't drop any bombs on anyone, or anywhere.

INSPIRED BY THE TOP RIGHT *CORNER*

Flipped into the top LEFT.

R RATED FOR REBECCA

Colouring in (my pre-work morning ritual), listening to a playlist from Danny. I particularly like the top right-hand corner of this Scribbled Egg.

SOMETIMES ILLUSTRATOR CRASHES

My favourite Patrick emailed this to me last night, under the subject 'Sometimes Illustrator CC is fun when it crashes'. My best part is the image's filename (to see it - click on it, and 'save as'). I've mentioned it before, but my Scribbled Egg's filenames are often different to their blog titles....

MOTHERLAND

I'm busy organising files on my old laptop, and came across my Motherland diagram. I miss that on-campus KTH apartment, the snow, and my stand-in sister, Helle.

IntiMACY

Today I am fake packing, in preparation for returning home next week. I have just weighed the majority of my clothes and luckily they're only 17kg! I was worried I'd have to ship a box back to South Africa, which would be super expensive but with a 30kg allowance I should be okay.

I took a break to make this paint, while listening to Röyksopp & Robyn "Monument"

Also, in **breaking** news:

The Guardian: Microsoft Paint to be killed off after 32 years (NOooo!)

The Guardian: Microsoft Paint saved after outpouring of love – sort of (Phew!)

BLUE

LET'S START WITH GREY AND THEN ERASE

I'm slowly getting myself back on track, after a period of grey. I painted and then unpainted my nails in grey nail-polish this evening, after a day of cleaning. I cleaned the house, and my spirit. I even washed the shower curtain, and the bio waste bin (which is always very stinky).

WISHING FOR DESTINY

Currently reading Cultural Hijack: Rethinking Intervention and loving it. Top three quotes so far:

“These insertions, interventions and disruptions, the anomalous and the out-of-place, breach the order of perception and challenge us to think.”

“The interventionist becomes the catalyst for a ‘user-generated’ city whose tactics and procedures are reinventing the way in which art is encountered and experienced, empowering people to act and think differently about the world around them.”

“Cultural hijack is often the unannounced, unregulated, spontaneous creation of a moment, when something grabs your attentions, stops you in your tracks, catches you by surprise…”
